Prompt: Describe how gender roles or patriarchy influence your identity?

Prompt Response: Due to my gender as a male I was taught to be strong. My dad taught me not to cry, and how to hold yourself together even when times go tough. He tried to encourage me to open up and not become a closed off person. These lessons did not stick due to my personality. I became traditionally strong like he taught but I also became closed off.

Summary: In class we watched the video about a person's mask and fitting in with others. After we started creating our own masks that were unique to each other.

Reflection: Today was a little unformattable for me because the gender role of being a strong male who puts on a mask hits a little close to home. The message about the mask and who you are is strange because I hardly think of who I am. I like to look forward, so for me to reflect on my character is strange.

Prompt: Pretend you are writing a blog entry as Celie; the moment you uncover the hidden letters. Describe what you would think, say, and do, and how this discovery would reshape how you see Mister and yourself. Reflect on why this moment would matter so much and how it would change your next choices.

In "The Lamb" and "The Tyger", both poems suggest that beauty and danger can come from the same source. Describe a time when something or someone you admired also scared or challenged you. How did that experience change the way you see the world or the idea of “goodness”?
