Before the Civil War, most people saw nothing wrong with children working long hours. Over time, people began to see it as unfair and even cruel. What is something that society once accepted but now sees as wrong, or something we still accept today that might be viewed as wrong in the future? Explain your reasoning.

Prompt response: All kids aspiring going to college will be viewed as wrong in the future. Today we are seeing people go to college and having no career waiting for them when they leave. As time goes on less people will eventually go and college will become less relevant because it doesn’t guarantee a future like it did before.

Summary: In class we completed a common lit about child labor in the U.S throughout its history.

Reflection: I remember when I first started working at around 15 washing dishes for my dad’s business. To read that children probably half my age were doing jobs much more dangerous was a little sickening. I wonder if there is anything today that my generation does that will be seen as this inhuman in the future.

Prompt: Pretend you are writing a blog entry as Celie; the moment you uncover the hidden letters. Describe what you would think, say, and do, and how this discovery would reshape how you see Mister and yourself. Reflect on why this moment would matter so much and how it would change your next choices.

In "The Lamb" and "The Tyger", both poems suggest that beauty and danger can come from the same source. Describe a time when something or someone you admired also scared or challenged you. How did that experience change the way you see the world or the idea of “goodness”?
