Prompt: Celie tells Harpo to “beat” Sofia because she believes that’s how men control women, but this advice causes pain and conflict. Think about a time when someone gave you advice that sounded right at first but ended up being wrong. How did it affect your situation or relationships? What lesson did you learn about thinking for yourself?

Prompt Response: Some bad advice I heard when I was younger was something along the lines of "your elders are always correct". That is obviously false. Although I didn't think this at first. I wanted to obey and make them proud so I did as I was told. When eventually their advice went astray I thought it was my failure but with time I realized blind obedience won't carry you through life in a fulfilling manner.

Summary: In class we read more letters from The Color Purple and worked on our adobe video project about our assigned letter.

Reflection: The older I get the more I'm able to find my own path and the less I require/search for advice from my elders like parents. I think this is mostly due to growing up but part of me thinks it may be due to their advice failing me in the past I hardly look for advice now.

Prompt: Pretend you are writing a blog entry as Celie; the moment you uncover the hidden letters. Describe what you would think, say, and do, and how this discovery would reshape how you see Mister and yourself. Reflect on why this moment would matter so much and how it would change your next choices.

In "The Lamb" and "The Tyger", both poems suggest that beauty and danger can come from the same source. Describe a time when something or someone you admired also scared or challenged you. How did that experience change the way you see the world or the idea of “goodness”?
