Prompt: Today we focused on constructing a strong literary argument paragraph about Wild and whether discomfort is necessary for meaningful personal growth. After working through the claim-evidence-analysis structure, explain which part of the paragraph was most challenging for you and why. Do you find it more difficult to create an arguable claim or to move beyond summary in your analysis?

 Prompt Response: What I found most difficult was finding the right way to explain my quotes. I had to remind myself I wasn’t summarizing, and make sure every line was building off the point of the argument. Once I reminded myself of that, it began to flow well. I think it's more difficult to make an arguable claim, because if your claim is good then the rest will fall into place. But if you have an alright claim you’ll find holes in it later on making your paragraph less effective. 


Summary: In class we went over body paragraph structures, and did a brainstorming idea activity. 


Reflection: It was fun writing a body paragraph for class again. I think once I start writing more and we do more practice in class, the process will become a lot easier. I enjoy the process of writing and if I can imagine the argument working in my head, then it's only a matter of time until it works out on paper.

  Prompt Response: I remember when I had my first asthma attack during a match. I fully stopped all the effort I had put forward for months learning and training for wrestling. Every practice and every match I have to deal with it. I hate it so much, I could do other things and most likely do better at those things but instead I do wrestling. I don’t have a concrete reason anymore besides I must see it through. Despite everything and my own body telling me to stop for years now I keep going.  Summary: In class we read chapter 6, and answered 6 questions about chapter 6.  Reflection: I’m quite familiar with having your own body giving up on you. Diabetes and asthma make sure of that with my sport. I have a talent for weightlifting, I do not have a talent for wrestling. Although wrestling is where I put the majority of my time and effort. Prompt: What is the most challenging part of working in a group? Discuss a time when a group assignment did not go as well as you planned and how you learned from that experience.

 Prompt Response: The most challenging part of working with a group is assuming everyone will do their part and if they do their part the quality of work will be up to par. I remember in middle school I was assigned a group project in 8th grade. The other two people knew I did my work so they did nothing, and if I did only my part my grade would suffer. What I learned from that is communicating with my teacher about my partners to ensure they do their part and my grade doesn’t suffer.  Summary: In class we were assigned a group project and Mr. Reese went over the instructions for such a project. He then assigned groups based off table, but that works out in my favor.  Reflection: I hate group projects unless they are with people I like, or I know they’ll do their part. Unreliable people make group projects miserable because you feel trapped having to do more work because they don’t wanna do work .
