Prompt: Cities can also be an important part of a person’s cultural identity, shaping their values, experiences, and way of life. Think of a movie or TV show that changed the way you see a specific city. How was that city and its culture portrayed, and did it present a full picture or a “single story”? Explain how this portrayal could influence how people view those who live there.

Prompt Response: I remember watching the movie Fast and Furious and seeing how gigantic and hot LA felt. How riddled with street racing it seemed to be. It was portrayed as a place of opportunity for all things including crime, and in this case street racing and robbery among other things. This film presented a single story of how LA can be portrayed but it was incomplete. This portrayal may make people think that street racing is more common than it really is, among other crimes occurring in that film.

Summary: In class we completed a common lit assignment.

Reflection: Its hard to get a full picture of anything from just one source. I believe for something to be presented as a full picture it must have multiple sources of information to correctly display how this thing really is.

Prompt: Pretend you are writing a blog entry as Celie; the moment you uncover the hidden letters. Describe what you would think, say, and do, and how this discovery would reshape how you see Mister and yourself. Reflect on why this moment would matter so much and how it would change your next choices.

In "The Lamb" and "The Tyger", both poems suggest that beauty and danger can come from the same source. Describe a time when something or someone you admired also scared or challenged you. How did that experience change the way you see the world or the idea of “goodness”?
