Write about a time when you did something out of the norm. What was it and how did others react?

Prompt Response: When I joined wrestling at Lakeside High School. I didn't know the club existed until the end of my freshman year. I remember the last day of school there was an announcement calling those who are interested in wrestling to show up to Coach Moore's room. I asked my friend if I should as a joke, and he laughed yes. I went partly as a joke. I ended up spending countless hours in that wrestling room, and making unforgettable memories with great friends.  Summary: I arrived late to class but we read the poem "I'm Nobody! Who are you?" by Emily Dickinson. After we analyzed the text and answered some questions. My response to the "Who are you?" . . ."I am a 18 year old high school student getting ready to apply to college to seek an opportunity at making my own life.  Reflection: Poetry is an odd thing because at first its like reading another language but once you understand it beautiful. I enjoy the median despite my lack of proficienc...

Judith Ortiz Cofer says, “The Island travels with you.” What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?

Prompt Response: My white skin tone means no matter where I go there is a chance they assume I'm racist or something else. I work hard to present myself in a manner which is not offensive to no one. I want others to feel comfortable in my presence.  Summary: In class we went over our stereotype sheet. Afterwards we started another story by Judith Ortiz Cofer. We read and analyzed the story to complete the work sheet.  Reflection: I consider myself to be a polite person who is accepting of others. Though I am reminded not everything thinks this about me. Then talking and thinking about other people experiencing these stereotypes in much worse circumstances is hard to think about.

Prompt: Write about an experience when someone assumed something about you because of a stereotype. What was the situation, and what did you do?

Prompt Response: I've had people assume because I'm white I am racist in middle school. This happened when I moved schools from Dekalb County to Gwinnett County. I was quiet and didn't stick up for myself. This led to a rumor being spread that I was racist, when in fact I didn't want to hang out with any of these people. Later that year my only friends were people you would consider minorities, and I wasn't friends with them to help with the rumors but because they were good people.  Summary: In class we finished up the culture poems then had a guest speaker who talked to us about senior stuff. It was mainly about what we were going to do after high school and where to get help for advice.  Reflection: I always feel uncomfortable talking about race and such because it only became a thing in my mind during middle school by other kids. Yet its presence is a real thing which I must acknowledge. When I have to go through these thoughts in my head its uncomfortable yet ...

Prompt: Describe something you will never fully understand.

Prompt Response: The concept of love is one of the hardest things to grasp. It can appear so solid and perfect yet so fake. Love can feel like the most clear lie someone can tell you, yet when it comes at the right time from the right person it means the world. Due to how situational love is I struggle to understand it.  Summary: Today in class we presented our culture poem, and listened to others present theirs.  Reflection: It was relaxing after the initial anxiety of presenting. I never enjoy it but I think my presentation went well, and looking back on my project I think I may be proud.

Prompt: Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response: I wish I had more time in the day. I wish I could have an extra 3 hours in the day so I could sleep just a little longer. Or so I could enjoy my hobbies like lifting or hanging out with my friends. I could even be productive and work on my college essays. I will always take the opportunity to have more time in the day.  Summary: :In class today we allegedly had a quiz that Mr. Reese was talked out of with one sentence, so that was a win. We then worked on our cultural poems for the rest of class.  Reflection: In class I learned how natural incorporating literary devices into my poem can be. Literary languages doesn't have to be complicated to be effective.

Prompt: What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt Response: I enjoy a nerdy hobby called Dungeons and Dragons also known as D&D. The most creative thing I have ever made is the world I Game Master for my friends. I have created history, characters, missions, story arcs and etc for this game of make believe. I have spent nearly 7 years of my life in only one world, though now I'm expanding that horizon. Now I'm making another. My D&D worlds are the most creative thing I have ever made.  Summary: In class today we read "A Korean Dream" by Sharon Lee, and then we analyzed/discussed the text as a class. We then started working on our own Culture Poems.  Reflection: It was nice to go down memory lane about D&D and the countless hours I spent writing to entertain my friends. I have no doubt that story although not perfect gave us hours of entertainment and a life time of funny stories to tell.

Prompt: Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt Response: The two biggest questions of my life are: Will I be successful enough for myself? Along with, will I die alone? I strive for more, I want more out of my life. I want everything this world can offer me. I want to feel fulfilled at the end of my life having no regrets about what I didn't do. Part of this is making a good amount of money in a work I enjoy that I can be proud of. I worry that I won't reach that height for myself, and I'll end up bitter. To answer the second question I struggle with my desire for being alone time plus balancing relationships. Throughout my life it has been hard to connect to someone on that deep level and be vulnerable with them. I wonder if I'll do it or if I'll cower away from it.  Summary: Today in class we read "I, Too" by Langston Hughes and analyzed the text. After we answered a series of writing questions.  Reflection: Well I had to reflect on some of my biggest insecurities in the form of these questio...
